Award Show Season

It's that time of year again, when the red carpets are rolled out and the celebrities get dolled up. OK, so I'm not actually sure if it's actually award show season BUT IT IS IN PORTLAND. The Portland Music Awards are gearing up to take the city by storm. I first learned about this courtesy of the h8rs over at The Portland Mercury who said people should boycott this prestigious award show. FUCK THAT. Not only does this event get the Volcano City seal of approval but if you keep reading you will find the inside scoop on who gets our vote.

VOLCANO CITY'S PROFESSIONAL VOTING OPINION:

Pioneer Award (Individual or Group who has best advanced the Portland music scene throughout their career)

COOL NUTZ. (Because nothing screams advancing music like mediocre lyrics and NUTZ.)

The Sounds of VTech / Cool Nutz Mixtape

Legends Award

Leroy Vinnegar (Because he had the weirdest name and I happened to Google him. Turns out he played with the likes of Van Morrison, Stan Getz, and Chet Baker. Just never in Portland. He came here when he was really old. :/

Album of the Year

'Vampire Love' - Morgan Grace (I love Twilight)

Band of the Year

Throwback Suburbia (They sound as if Weezer and Bare Naked Ladies combined forces of awesomeness)

Best Male Artist

Will Coca (Best cinematography in his music video)

Will Coca - Yet to be Loved from Benjamin Ashlock on Vimeo.

Best New Artist

New York Rifles (Generic Rock and check out the faces the drummer is making.)

Best Compilation Album

'St. Johns Poetry Sessions, Volume IV' - Deep Roots (Thought Volume III was better but whatever.)

Outstanding Achievements in Genre's not relevant to my interests

Don't Care

Best Radio Station

94.7 KRNK - (My favorite part is when Gregg plugs Purina One Cat Chow)

Best Music Venue Large

McMenamins Edgefield (Not actually located in Portland....)

Best Live Performance

Doo Doo Funk All Stars (The name says it all.)

Welp, there you have it. Our official selections for the PMAs. Granted we skipped a couple of genres and may have made some jokes along the way but I can't stress the importance of this award show and what it means to the music community of Portland. Did I mention that FUCKING SMASH MOUTH WILL BE PLAYING!!!!!!!!!!!!!
