Volcano City Thirsty Thursday Sasquatch Mix

We know you've been waiting 364 days for this time of year, when hipsters, hippies, punks (maybe not so much), old people, young people and music lovers of all ilk flock to the beautiful Gorge Amphitheater for the annual Sasquatch! Music Festival. The festival boasts great music, manageable and friendly crowds, campground parties and above all, the most beautiful venue you'll ever see music in (at least until the first concert is held on the moon). The Gorge Amphitheater is a natural amphitheater that overlooks the Columbia River Gorge, and the contours and texture of the landscape seemed to have been carved straight from the hands of Aphrodite. If you've been before, you know what I'm talking about, if you haven't been before, get there now, and if this is gonna be your first year, start getting excited. To commemorate the fact that Sasquatch! is finally here, our weekly Thirsty Thursday Mix is made up of bands that are playing at Sasquatch!, and we took the liberty of putting the artists you should see in bold text.

Thirsty Wednesday? La Roux/Major Lazer mixtape!!!

A little bonus mixtape for ya this week.

Mad Decent just put out this La Roux/Major Lazer collaboration mixtape. It is pretty incredible. Booty Boppin/Rump Shakin material.

You can try their website, or this alternate link because apparently 200k people tried to download it and killed their site.

The sounds go together amazingly well. There's a good mix of sounds, some intense 'ima kill someone' sounds, some dance, some dubstepping wowowowawa, and like, some other tunes. Get it, it's free.

Black Keys "Brothers" Album Review.

It was the summer of 1976. I was sitting on my haunches making beetles fight each other in the middle of the gravel road out front of my family's Ohio homestead. My granpappy leapt out of his rocking chair and faced the road with a grin wider than the Gateway Arch. I didn't know what the hell he was looking at, but I heard it soon enough.
Out from the south came a pillar of dust flanked by twin black Harley Davidsons. They didn't look like they'd any intention of stopping.  I stood up, stick in hand, and braced myself to see everlasting light. They came closer and closer, their engines bubbling like tar pits kicked into overdrive. The two long-haired sons of bitches holding onto the motorcycles had cigarettes dangling from their lips, God knows how they held onto them at the speed they were going at. They were so close now I could see their dirty fists rip back even further on the throttles. I closed my eyes as I was caught in the twister. Convinced I'd been smothered so quickly by those black steel raiders I couldn't even feel it, I opened my eyes to look at Heaven -- and saw instead a vinyl record twirling around the stick in my hand. Pressed into the center was the word "brothers".
"Look at them ol' boys," Granpappy said. "Let's go put that thing on!"

LightsoverLA remau5es

The fellas of LightsoverLA are real skittish. They couldn't sleep because they saw a mouse in their room and it drove them crazy! A dead mouse. Luckily they had some chords to work with.

LightsoverLA remixed deadmau5, is basically what I'm getting at here. Give the dubstep edit an audiopeep, deadmau5 did.

"Sounds Good"? If its good enough for him its good enough for you. deadmau5 is probably one of the only actual artists I've seen in charge of their own facebooks. The dude seems pretty computer savvy, though. Not that its that hard or anything. We figured it out just fine.

And I'm going to go ahead and use the word that people only get to say once a year to describe the remix they've done of Hurts' Better Than Love: epic. If this was played on the big stages like they've been playing at recently with the likes of the Twelves and Grum, you'd probably have an epiphany. Wait, that's not the word. I mean boner.

We also have here one of their golden oldies, a LightsoverLA mashup of deadmau5's the reward is cheese and one of the best tracks on MSTRKRFT's Fist of God, Bounce. The reward is: The reward is bounce.

As always, click on the special looking text to hear the beautiful music!

deadmau5 - Some Chords (LightsoverLA 5am dubstep remix)
Hurts- Better Than Love (LightsoverLA Remix)
LightsoverLA - The Reward is Bounce (deadmau5 vs MSTRKRFT)

Ever wanted to know what makes LightsoverLA tick besides necromusophobia-induced insomnia? Read our interview with them right here!

PDX Pop Now! Compilation Album!

PDX Pop Now is the premier music festival of Portland (sorry, MFNW). There, I said it. What else could you want? It offers the best of local Portland bands, it takes place right in the middle of summer, it's mostly outdoors, and it's all-ages (but you can drink in the Rotture if you need a lil summer thirst quencher). Oh yeah, it also will cost you nothing. Jack. Squat. Every year, not only do they put together a festival, but they also release a compilation album celebrating some of the best of Portland's music. The track-listing for the double album has been released. Click after the jump for it

O.M.G. Rusko's O.M.G. is out now!

This is a long post in a way. Mad Decent's resident English doobie brother Rusko has dropped his first album OMG. Its definitely more accessible to people who aren't hugely into dubstep. Stream the whole thang right over here and then watch this seventeen minute long video of a concert he played in Canada last year. It looks wild. He's definitely dub-centered but you really can't call out which song he's going to throw into his live shows. Points for anybody who doesn't pigeonhole themselves into what people expect, especially at their own shows. A whole bunch of great tracks all over the place. Check it out below:

Deadmau5 is running out of creative song titles (or already has)

Joel Zimmerman AKA Deadmau5 is an international electronic superstar who produces intricate prog-house hits and even more complex live stage setups, yet his albums and tracks are adorned with arbitrary names like "For Lack of a Better Name" and "Random Album Title," how cute.

You already know all about him, but he requires a mention on the ol' blog here and then because he's just one of those prolific artist who draws a massive, diverse crowd. Somehow he manages to make all the hipsters, ravers and techno-heads get along in the same tent for hours on end. Here's why:

Anyway, here's the new Deadmau5 anthem for 2010 complete with characteristically arbitrary title:

Deadmau5-Some Chords

And an older track, one of my personal favorites:

Deadmau5 - Strobe
