Collaborations on Tapes

If there was one defining trend that has come to characterize the music of this past summer, it is the rising prominence of DIY artists that have come to be lazily labeled as "chillwave." For every Neon Indian or Washed Out that hit it big, there are dozens of other equally talented producers that remain relatively undiscovered, who are unfairly bunched into this 'genre' of music. The reality of it is that they share as much in common with each other as Washed Out and Neon Indian do, which is to say, absolutely nothing; excepting the fact that they were discovered via internet, and that there is a 'home-studio' quality to their first discovered tracks. This makes it all the more exciting when the internet enables these unique and differing artists to collaborate with one another, whether they've ever actually met in person or not. In an effort to capture this excitement, Dead As Digital, Stadiums and Shines, and The Road Goes Even On, have assembled some of the finest of these musicians and released a cassette that features collaborations between these artists, which can be bought at weget.by (tip: There's only one cassette left.) Hit the jump for some choice tracks from this tape.

PDX Pop Now! Compilation Album!

PDX Pop Now is the premier music festival of Portland (sorry, MFNW). There, I said it. What else could you want? It offers the best of local Portland bands, it takes place right in the middle of summer, it's mostly outdoors, and it's all-ages (but you can drink in the Rotture if you need a lil summer thirst quencher). Oh yeah, it also will cost you nothing. Jack. Squat. Every year, not only do they put together a festival, but they also release a compilation album celebrating some of the best of Portland's music. The track-listing for the double album has been released. Click after the jump for it

Special delivery from Jamaica

We got some great stuff sent to us today that I know is gonna help carry you through the rest of these gloomy rainy days until that beautiful season of party 'n bullshit we call summer. Jamaica (formerly known as Poney Poney), are the Parisian duo of Antoine Hilaire and Flo Lyonnet. Right now they're working on their debut album which is being produced by none other than Xavier de Rosnay of Justice and the sound engineer that worked with Daft Punk, Peter Franco. Needless to say, we're expecting great things. The album includes the almost annoyingly catchy track, "I think I like U 2", which if you haven't checked out yet, skip everything and scroll down the page for that little piece of indie pop gold. And hey, if this guy likes it, they must be doing something right. The album is coming out soon so we can't wait. Until then, check out their Bermuda Party Compilation along with some Breakbot and Buffalo Bunch remixes after the break that'll have you bee boppin' all the way to those sunny, summer days.
